Using An Amplifier For Your Headset - Do I Need One?

Amplifiers are used to allow the user to have greater control over the use of their headset.

Amplifiers connect to the desk phone system and then connect to the users headset. Amplifiers can come in corded or wireless solutions.

The benefits of using an amplifier are:

Increased control over sound volume - Each user has a different hearing volumes, some being more sensitive to a sound and some less so. Volume of callers can vary depending on a number of factors including their own phone system, whether they are on a mobile unit, cordless, long distance and can  vary on any number of these factors. Having an amplifier allows the user to adjust sound volume to suit each situation resulting in improved call clarity allowing an improved response.

Mute - Amplifiers often allow users to mute outgoing audio so callers on the other end cannot hear sounds or voices. This can provide advantages should the user need to communicate to other co-workers while taking a call or to reduce background noise.

Quick Disconnect - Many amplifiers have a feature where the user can quickly disconnect their headset when they need to physically move around and quickly reconnect if necessary.

Amplifiers add a certain amount of cost to a headset application, but can offer many advantages.

Not all headsets require an amplifier, some are designed to connect directly into the phones with built in amplifiers. Most phones can utilize an amplifier, however not all headsets can plug direct into a phone.
